SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT TEAM FLEXIBILITY: ITS ANTECEDENTS AND PROJECT PERFORMANCE

    Get PDF
Surveys on system development (SD) project performance suggest that while much improvement has been made in SD technology, the project success rate remains low. SD research based on the socio-technical perspective suggests that three sources of socio-technical change have a bearing on the performance of SD projects: business requirements, development technology, and development procedures. To enhance project effectiveness, SD teams need to be flexible in the face of the constant changes from business and technical environments where they operate. The construct, SD Team Flexibility, is used to describe an SD team\u27s capability to respond to changes from socio-technical environment. In this study, we propose that the SDTF has profound impact on the effectiveness of SD project. Furthermore, drawn on social capital view, this study explores the factors explaining the variation of SDTF among SD teams. Finally, this study posits that the impact of SDTF on project performance is mediated by team efficacy. A model depicting the nomological relationships between the constructs is developed. Research methodology that this study is used will be described. This paper concludes with potential research and practical implications

Surgical Excision of Tumoral Calcinosis of the Distal End of the Clavicle in a Patient With Uremia

AbstractTumoral calcinosis is an uncommon disease characterized by tumor-like lesions composed of calcium salt. This condition is not a true neoplasm but an imbalance of calcium and phosphorus metabolism resulting from hereditary causes or secondary defects. Medical therapy to balance calcium and phosphorus is the cornerstone of treatment. However, when pain or other compression symptoms occur, surgical excision is indicated. We report a 53-year-old man who presented with a swollen mass over his left shoulder with severe pain and a decreased range of motion for about 6 months. He had a history of chronic renal failure and was on hemodialysis for 20 years. After serial examinations, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, and secondary hyperparathyroidism were diagnosed. Excision of the mass was performed. The pathological examination results revealed tumoral calcinosis. He was then referred to a nephrologist to adjust the medication, and dialysate was supplied to balance the calcium and phosphorus metabolism. He recovered well without significant complications or recurrence after 5 years of follow-up

Cloud computing adoption framework:A security framework for business clouds

This paper presents a Cloud Computing Adoption Framework (CCAF) security suitable for business clouds. CCAF multi-layered security is based on the development and integration of three major security technologies: firewall, identity management and encryption based on the development of Enterprise File Sync and Share technologies. This paper presents our motivation, related work and our views on security framework. Core technologies have been explained in details and experiments were designed to demonstrate the robustness of the CCAF multi-layered security. In penetration testing, CCAF multi-layered security could detect and block 99.95% viruses and trojans and could maintain 85% and above of blocking for 100 hours of continuous attacks. Detection and blocking took less than 0.012 second per trojan and viruses. A full CCAF multi-layered security protection could block all SQL injection providing real protection to data. CCAF multi-layered security had 100% rate of not reporting false alarm. All F-measures for CCAF test results were 99.75% and above. How CCAF multi-layered security can blend with policy, real services and blend with business activities have been illustrated. Research contributions have been justified and CCAF multi-layered security can offer added value for volume, velocity and veracity for Big Data services operated in the Cloud

Effects of natto extract on endothelial injury in a rat model

    Get PDF
Vascular endothelial damage has been found to be associated with thrombus formation, which is considered to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A diet of natto leads to a low prevalence of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of natto extract on vascular endothelia damage with exposure to laser irradiation. Endothelial damage both in vitro and in vivo was induced by irradiation of rose bengal using a DPSS green laser. Cell viability was determined by MTS assay, and the intimal thickening was verified by a histological approach. The antioxidant content of natto extract was determined for the free radical scavenging activity. Endothelial cells were injured in the presence of rose bengal irradiated in a dose-dependent manner. Natto extract exhibits high levels of antioxidant activity compared with purified natto kinase. Apoptosis of laser-injured endothelial cells was significantly reduced in the presence of natto extract. Both the natto extract and natto kinase suppressed intimal thickening in rats with endothelial injury. The present findings suggest that natto extract suppresses vessel thickening as a synergic effect attributed to its antioxidant and anti-apoptosis properties

    Directed diffraction without negative refraction

Using the FDTD method, we investigate the electromagnetic propagation in two-dimensional photonic crystals, formed by parallel air cylinders in a dielectric medium. The corresponding frequency band structure is computed using the standard plane-wave expansion method. It is shown that within partial bandgaps, waves tend to bend away from the forbidden directions. This phenomenon perhaps need not be explained in terms of negative refraction or `superlensing' behavior, contrast to what has been conjectured.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure

Design of High Efficiency Illumination for LED Lighting

    Get PDF
A high efficiency illumination for LED street lighting is proposed. For energy saving, this paper uses Class-E resonant inverter as main electric circuit to improve efficiency. In addition, single dimming control has the best efficiency, simplest control scheme and lowest circuit cost among other types of dimming techniques. Multiple serial-connected transformers used to drive the LED strings as they can provide galvanic isolation and have the advantage of good current distribution against device difference. Finally, a prototype circuit for driving 112 W LEDs in total was built and tested to verify the theoretical analysis
